26.02.2008: As of April 21st, 2008, Austrian will offer 3 weekly flights (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) to the city of Baia Mare in Romania, the industrial capital for car manufacturing. Austrian already serves the following destinations in Romania: Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Sibiu and Timisoara. The creation of this new connection confirms Austrian's role as a leader in providing flights to Eastern Europe.
19.02.2008: Starting in April 2008, Austrian Airlines will resume service to Erbil, Iraq (this route was opened in December 2006 but was suspended following a re-evaluation of the security situation in August 2007). Three flights a week (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) are planned for April and May, and four a week (including Sundays) from June onwards. Austrian Airlines was the first airline company to obtain permission to fly to Iraq.
21.01.2008: In 2007, Austrian carried nearly 11 million passengers despite the reduction of long-haul routes in favour of medium- and short-haul flights. For 2008, Austrian Airlines is expected to increase flight services to Eastern Europe.
