15.01.2008: Brussels Airlines come to an understanding with privately owned Indian carrier Jet Airways. Brussels' airport will be used as the base for the growth and development of Jet Airways in the European market.
In occasion of the presentation of the understanding between Brussels Airlines and Jet Airways, the Belgian airline company made it known that they are capable of taking over Alitalia in the case Alitalia reduces its operations at Malpensa airport, in Milan. In 2007, Brussels Airlines carried 400 thousand passengers in Italy, and for 2008, they plan on increasing passenger traffic by 6% between Brussels and Italian cities.
Brussels Airlines was created following the insolvency of the national airline company Sabena, in order to substitute it. In march 2007, the company incorporated Virgin Express, the low cost airline company and was launched as Brussels Airlines: the first Brussels Airlines' flight took place on march 25th, 2007.
